Twycross Zoo
In 2010 we implemented a Gateway Energy Monitoring System (EMS) within major UK zoo, Twycross, which enabled them to make significant savings on their energy bills.
When Twycross approached our team, their aim was to source a solution that would result in the reduction of electricity bills in their recent development, The Himalaya Visitor Centre. The site itself features a 300 seat restaurant, Bazaar, tourist information centre and conference and events centre, so it was important that such a large development would not drain resources unnecessarily.
The solution we provided was a Gateway Energy Monitoring System (EMS) allowing Twycross to witness their energy consumption in real-time. We implemented monitors which observe the usage of gas, water and electricity supported by alarms which notify when there is excess usage over a period of time. Staff at the zoo can monitor this data at any time by the display monitor we supplied within the Himalaya Vistor Centre.
As a result of the energy monitoring solution Twycross Zoo were able to achieve a savings on their energy bills of up to 20%.
The world class primate centre employs and robust green initiative, to which we have been proud to contribute. This has now resulted in working towards their long term aim to make the zoo fully sustainable.
Due to the great success of this project we continue to work with Twycross on their energy consumption expanding in to other areas throughout the site.
